Pacifics Hold Off Sturgeon 8-6

June 18 2022 The San Rafael Pacifics built an early lead and held on for an 8-6 victory over the Martinez Sturgeon. San Rafael scored three runs in each of the first two innings to take a 6-0 advantage, then added two more in the fourth. Martinez answered with two runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the seventh, but could not complete the comeback. The Pacifics finished with nine hits while the Sturgeon had seven.

John Bicos went 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI for San Rafael, while Beau Dorman added two hits, two runs and one RBI. Jalil Marinez also had two hits, and Jonathan Waite drove in three runs. San Rafael collected five doubles, including two from Bicos and one each by Marinez, Dorman and Waite.

Darwin Tavarez led Martinez with a two-hit performance that included a home run and two RBI. James Portillo went 1-for-1 with a run and one RBI, and Jordan Jackson contributed one RBI. Kevin Johnson doubled and scored once for the Sturgeon.

Mike Manley earned the win for San Rafael after allowing one hit and striking out four in 1.2 scoreless innings. John Murray recorded the save with a scoreless ninth that included three strikeouts. Martinez starter Jacob Lagos took the loss after surrendering nine hits and eight runs in five innings, with five runs charged as earned. Ellis Stevens held the Pacifics scoreless over the final three innings while striking out four.
