Pacifics Use Big Third Inning to Defeat Train Robbers, 10-5

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The San Rafael Pacifics erased an early two-run deficit with a five-run third inning and pulled away for a 10-5 victory over the Bakersfield Train Robbers on Tuesday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Bakersfield struck first in the bottom of the opening inning. Zach Beatty singled and Macs Carrillo followed with a double before Cade Fujii drove home Beatty with a single to left field. Carrillo then scored when Christian Altamirano grounded into a double play, giving the Train Robbers a 2-0 lead.

San Rafael answered decisively in the third. Starting pitcher James Courshon scored on a wild pitch before Aki Buckson doubled home Kyle Guerra and Fred Buckson to put the Pacifics in front, 3- 2. Calan Zemaitis then launched a two-run home run to center field, extending the advantage to 5-2.

The Pacifics added three more runs in the fifth inning. Fred Buckson scored on a wild pitch, and Jacob Savoy delivered a two-run single to center that brought home Zemaitis and Jaxson Bates. San Rafael made it 10-2 in the eighth when Guerra hit a two-run homer to center, scoring Keith Whitaker.

Bakersfield continued to battle. Pinch hitter Joe Riddle doubled home Cade Fujii and Dylan Heil in the bottom of the eighth, and Carrillo added a sacrifice fly in the ninth that scored Jed Downham. The late rally reduced the final margin to five runs.

Guerra finished 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, while Zemaitis scored twice and drove in two with his third-inning homer. Aki Buckson and Savoy also collected two RBIs apiece. Bates and Savoy each recorded two hits as San Rafael finished with 11 hits.

Courshon earned the victory after allowing two runs on eight hits over six innings. He struck out eight and walked one. Dillon Stimpson took the loss for Bakersfield after surrendering four runs on four hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Beatty and Carrillo each had two hits for the Train Robbers. Riddle led Bakersfield with two RBIs, while Fujii and Carrillo drove in one run each.
